Aurellia Anderson Thompson, LMFTA*, is gaining her clinical hours toward full MFT licensure under Deborah's supervision. She specializes in Spirituality/Spiritual Counseling, Family Counseling, Clergy Families, Career Transition, Grief Counseling. A native of Sacramento, CA, Aurellia serves Person County through Freedom House Recovery Center in Roxboro, NC where she coordinates Person County’s Community Mental Health Support program. Prior to working in community mental health, Aurellia was a Grief Counselor at Transitions LifeCare in Raleigh, NC and a Chaplain at St. Joseph’s Medical Center, Stockton where she became a Certified Palliative Care Chaplain.
Aurellia obtained her MA in Counseling from Palo Alto University, M.Div from Duke University, and holds dual Bachelors degrees in English and Psychology from Howard University. Her research areas of interest include the role spirituality plays in
grief stages, the effects of trauma and loss among adolescents in foster care, and the role African American spirituality plays in mental health treatment.
Aurellia is a trained clinical Chaplain, Marriage & Family Therapist Associate and licensed minister. Currently, she is serving as the Minister of Missions at Faith Community Church, Durham, NC. Aurellia is a member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority
Incorporated.
She is the Founder and CEO of Hidden Gem Enterprises, LLC, a company which seeks to inspire and empower people to live their lives with purpose. She is author of two books, "The Journey: Past, Present, Future" and "Lipgloss, Blazers, & Shoes: Knowing Your Identity and Purpose." She has long been a catalyst for the mental and socio-emotional needs for families, women and children. She has since become an advocate for meeting those needs and plans to do so through the special relationship between spirituality and mental health.
*An "Associate" license is granted to a person who has completed a graduate program in Marriage and Family Therapy, passed the national MFT exam and is gaining supervised hours of experienced practicing therapy toward their full LMFT licensure.
